Prawn/chingri vaturi


Prawn/chingri vaturi:

Preparing paturi:


  • Prawn (medium sizes): 1kg (wash and drain water)
  • Mustard oil: 1/2cup
  • Chopped onion:1 cup
  • Mustard paste: 1cup (add 5 green chilies and 1/4cup coriander leaves with mustard to make paste)
  • Coconut paste: 1/4cup
  • Turmeric powder: 1tsp
  • Red chili powder: 2tsp
  • Salt: 1tsp and
  • Pumpkin or bottle gourd leaves(lau pata): 10 pieces
In a bowl mix 2tbsp salt with 2cup water and soak the bottle gourd leaves into the water.
Mix all the spices and masala paste with prawn and set aside.
now using hand drain all water from leaves.


Take a leaf and place ½ cup prawn mixture in the center of the leaf, then fold the sides by overlapping each other to make a parcel.  Tie it well with a thread. Repeat the same for the rest. Set aside.


Preparing vaturi:

  • Basmati/ chinigura / plain rice: 4cup
  • Salt as required
  • Water: 8cup
Heat 8cup boiling water, salt in a dip pan and add rice. stir and cook until rice puff up.
Place all the prepared paturi over the rice. Now cover the pan and cook for 20 minutes in very low heat. after20 minutes, open the lid and vaturi is ready to serve.
serve rice, prawn and bottle gourd leaves separately.
