Lahori chicken chargha


For marinating:

  • Whole Chicken: 1 (with deep slits marked on it So that marination reaches deep in the chicken.)
  • lemon juice: 2tbsp
  • thick yogurt: 1/4cup
  • tandoori masala: 2tbsp
  • tomato ketchup: 2tbsp
  • Ginger paste: 1tbsp
  • Garlic paste: 1tsp
  • Black pepper powder: 1tsp
  • Red chilli powder : 1tsp
  • Garam masala powder: 1tsp
  • Roasted Cumin powder: 1tsp
  • Chat masala: 1tbsp
  • Salt: 1tsp
  • Ghee or butter : 1/4cup


Wash and then dry the chicken properly. Set aside.


In a small bowl, mix all the marinating ingredients to make a thick paste.
Now put this paste all over the chicken and marinate for at least 4 hours.



close the legs.
Bring water to boil in a steamer and put chicken with masala in the steamer. Cover and cook for 30 minutes on medium heat until it tender. (See picture)


Heat enough oil in a deep pan, add the steamed chicken and fry on high heat till crispy.


Brush 1tbsp ghee over the chicken and Serve hot with salad, naan or chutney.
