whole vapa ilish(steamed hilsha)
hilsha fish: whole fish , cut like picture or 8pieces fish,
mustard oil+ vegetable oil : 1/4cup + 1/4cup
fried onion(beresta):1/2 cup
Mustard(yellow + red) paste: 1/2cup (add 2 green chili with mustard to make paste)
thick yogurt: 1cup
Turmeric powder: 1tsp
Green chili, slit : 5
poppy seeds: 1tbsp
salt as required

brush 1tbsp oil in a baking pan or kind of heatproof bowl and place fish into the bowl.
blend yogurt, fried onion, green chilies, poppy seeds and make paste.now mix mustard paste, oil, turmeric, 1cup water and salt with yogurt mixture.
pour this mixture over fish and mix well. cover tightly with lid or foil.
Bake in the oven at 375F or 200C for 20 mins.after 20 mins uncover the bowl and bake for anther 20 mins.
Keep a big bowl with water for boiling. Stop the stove and Place the fish bowl into the boiling water. The boiling water should be up to ⅓rd of the fish bowl.
Cover the pan with a lid and turn on the stove and let it cook on low flame for 1 hour.
serve hot with plain rice or pulao.
