Chinese chicken shashlik


For chicken marinate:

  • Chicken breasts: 500mg(cut into cubes)
  • Lemon juice: 2tbsp
  • Soya sauce: 2tbsp
  • Vinegar: 2tbsp
  • Ginger paste: 1tbsp
  • MSG or azinomoto or testing salt: 1tsp
  • Red chili and black pepper powder: 1tsp each
  • Salt: 1/2tsp

For sauce

  • Tomato sauce: 1/2cup
  • Chili sauce: 2tbsp
  • Vinegar: 2tbsp
  • Tomato puree: 1cup
  • Chicken stock or Water: 1/2cup
  • Oregano: 1tsp
  • sugar: 1tbsp
  • Black pepper powder: 1tsp
  • Chopped garlic: 1tbsp
  • Butter: 2tbsp


  • Capsicum, tomato and onion: 1 , 2 and 2 (all vegetables cut into square cubes)
  • Shashlik sticks: 6
  • Oil or butter for frying


Preparing chicken:

In a bowl, mix all marinating ingredients. Add chicken with the masala and mix well. cover and leave to marinate for 2-3 hours.

Preparing sauce:

Heat butter in a pan, add garlic and fry until light golden. Immediately add rest of the ingredients and mix well. Cook on low flame until boil and thick. Turn off the heat, cover the sauce and set aside.

Preparing shashlik:

thread chicken cubes onto shashlik sticks closely alternating with vegetables (capsicum, tomato and onion cubes).


Heat 1/4cup oil in a frying pan, place the shashlik sticks into the pan. Sprinkle some sauce over the sticks and fry each side till chicken tender (around 5 -6 minutes).
Serve hot with sauce.
